Joining a Global Force
CHANGE IS ON THE ITINERARY - It’s clear that we need to rethink how we live—both in our everyday routines and during special moments. Some of our most unforgettable experiences happen while traveling, as we immerse ourselves in new places. The tourism industry holds a unique power to connect people with fresh perspectives, and with that comes a deep responsibility to lead change and innovate.
Destination Hauraki Coromandel is proud to collaborate with a growing number of destinations globally (the Collective) that are rising to this challenge. These destinations are driven by leaders who understand what’s at stake, recognise their potential to make a meaningful impact, and ensure that both residents and visitors can experience these innovations firsthand. They are the true trailblazers, setting the course for a better future.

Travel Can Make The World A Better Place - It's Our Responsability
"Travel can make the world a better place, but it must do so without environmental, economic and social harm. In the travel industry, and as travellers, we need to pair our words with meaningful action if we are going to improve our lives and the world. Most of the solutions we need are ready to be adopted. Do these things, but don't stop there. To protect our planet we must also take bold action together to achieve policy changes that shift whole systems. This is a big project that needs a big team. Join us.

Protecting kiwi and planting forests
Through long-term planning and practical actions, Destination Hauraki Coromandel is shaping a tourism system where, one day, every trip will make the world a better place by default. Hadley Dryden shares that vision, along with how the destination prioritizes biodiversity, leads a sustainable business program, and enables visitors to contribute to conservation. This presentation is part of 24 Hours of Travel Innovation, a digital event hosted by Destination Think beginning on World Tourism Day 2025.
Destination Think Interview - Why Kiwis are a KPI
One of the most tangible examples of Destination Hauraki Coromandel’s regenerative approach is its sustainability program, GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL - Kaitiaki. The initiative invites visitors to donate native trees, which are eco-sourced and grown by local Māori iwi, then planted at special sites that can often be visited in person. Each contribution also supports predator control efforts to protect endangered species, including the kiwi.
