Located on the shores of the Firth of Thames, the Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre is home to one of the most important coastal wetland ecosystems in New Zealand. This area is renowned for its rich biodiversity, rare geological formations like the shell bank cheniers, and its role in the incredible annual migrations of shorebirds. It's a place where nature and conservation efforts combine to offer visitors an unforgettable experience.
The Findlay Reserve Restoration project, which began in 2019, aims to restore the land's mauri by planting thousands of native coastal wetland species. This massive effort is coordinated annually and supports the rich ecosystems that make Pūkorokoro Miranda a vital sanctuary for birdlife.
