Season 1 at Kūaotunu
Grays Beach, with its stunning coastal dines, has long been a beloved spot for visitors to Kūaotunu. First planted by dedicated volunteers in the 1990s, these back dunes are once again in need of restoration as invasive plants have encroached, threatening the native scrub and archeological sites that make this area unique. Kūaotunu Dune Care is leading the effort to restore these dunes, creating a thriving ecosystem that preserves this beach's natural beauty and history.
Your donation will directly support Kūaotunu Dune Care's efforts to restore and preserve Grays Beach, allowing locals and visitors to connect with nature, history, and the scenic beauty of Kūaotunu’s coastline.
Each year, new plantings add life and resilience back to the Kūaotunu Dunes and surrounding environment. These snapshots capture what was planted, who was involved, and how the area is being restored season by season.
Your donation helps fund the next round of planting by Kūaotunu Dune Care and contributes to predator control, helping build resilience to this dune system for generations to come.
