Tucked along the rugged coastline north of Waihi Beach, the Homunga Bay Track is one of Hauraki Coromandel’s most spectacular coastal walks. Wild, remote, and absolutely unforgettable. The trail winds its way from the golden sands of Waihi Beach into a world of steep, lush headlands, pōhutukawa-fringed cliffs, and sweeping Pacific views that feel untouched and cinematic.
Starting at the Homunga Bay end, the track dips down to a secluded, surfy cove that feels truly off-the-beaten-path. From here it climbs again and traverses high above the ocean, delivering big views and that classic Coromandel mix of bush, birdsong, and shimmering blue water. The final descent brings you into Orokawa Bay, a stunning crescent of white sand framed by ancient pōhutukawa that lean out over the beach like they’ve been guarding it for centuries.
It’s a moderately challenging walk, expect some hills, narrow sections, and uneven coastline terrain, but the payoff is huge. Pack water, good shoes, and a camera: this is one of those tracks where every corner looks like a postcard.
Homunga Bay can be accessed from the end of Ngatitangata Road or from Orokawa Bay end.

NOTE:
In places on this track, there are cliffs and high drop-offs and areas are changeable by nature. Keep to the track and keep children safe.
The track may be inaccessible at high tide.
Swimming is not recommended
The coastline at Orokawa Scenic Reserve can be dangerous, particularly during rough conditions.
