Discover the White Star Trail

For those seeking an unforgettable escape, the White Star Trail offers a unique three-day, three-night hiking experience across private farmland and lush native bush. Nestled in the heart of New Zealand’s untouched hills, this adventure invites visitors to step off the grid, reconnect with nature, and rediscover the simple joys of walking, sharing, and being present.

The journey begins in the evening with arrival and welcome at the charming farm cottage at White Star Station. Guests settle in, take in the surroundings, and prepare for the first day’s hike. The trail is designed for small groups of 6–8 people, offering a self-guided experience with walker’s bags carried between accommodations, so guests can fully immerse themselves in the journey. Evenings are spent enjoying high-quality meals that nourish both body and spirit, bringing people together to share stories, laughter, and the satisfaction of a trail well-trodden.

Day Two takes walkers on a 12-14 kilometre trek through rolling farmland up to the peak of White Star, before arriving at a secluded off-grid bush cabin for the night. For the adventurous, there’s an optional stop at a waterfall, perfect for an epic cold plunge amidst the pristine native forest.

Day three is a 13-kilometre hike that winds deeper into native bush before rewarding participants with sweeping coastal vistas as they arrive at an ocean-view cottage, complete with a spa to unwind and reflect on the journey. This is a day to challenge the body, quiet the mind, and revel in the serenity of untouched wilderness.

Day four is a 7-kilometre walk that takes you across ridges with ocean views down to the valley floor before being welcomed back to White Star Station.

The White Star Trail is more than a hike, it’s a chance to switch off, de-stress, and reconnect. Each day blends physical challenge, peaceful surroundings, and the camaraderie of trail mates, leaving visitors with better weekend stories, a renewed connection to the land, and a sense of accomplishment.

Whether it’s the thrill of tackling the trail less travelled, the joy of nourishing food, or the serenity of off-the-grid accommodation, the White Star Trail promises an experience that’s good for the soul. It’s the ultimate opportunity to head for the hills, unpack, and reconnect, both with nature and with oneself.
