Kaitiaki Tips for Cycling
Every ride through our trails is a chance to look after this place. By following simple Kaitiaki tips, you help protect the forests, coastlines, and cultural sites that make Hauraki Coromandel unique. Mountain biking and cycling here isn’t just about the ride, it’s about keeping the trails in great shape for everyone who follows.
- Wash down tyres and bike equipment before and after each ride to prevent the spread of kauri dieback and other pests.
- Check trail conditions before you ride and avoid trails that are closed, muddy, or under maintenance to help protect the track and rider safety.
- Ride responsibly, slow down around walkers, give way when required, and use a bell or call out when passing.
- Please stay on the trail, don't forge your own track taking shortcuts or photos. There's a great shot to be had from the lookout just around the next bend...
- You will notice there are no rubbish bins. Please take your rubbish home from the trail or the beach, or back to where you are staying.
- Support local kaitiaki efforts, consider donating to trail trusts or volunteering for maintenance days if you can.
